Recreation provides economic, social, and environmental benefits to individuals and to communities, yet its role in community development and sustainability continues to be undervalued and misunderstood. Creating, providing, and sharing relevant data on the value of recreation requires coordinated and innovative ways to engage the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors, and their related networks.
The Sociable Scientists are active participants in recreation on Vancouver Island. We enjoy and promote our enjoyment of the plethora of opportunities available to residents and visitors in our local communities, and we work to broaden and deepen the awareness and understanding of how, where, when, why, and with whom recreation is consumed in our society. Accessibility and affordability of quality recreation are vital to the health and well being of individuals, families, neighbourhoods, communities, regions, provinces, and nations – by enhancing our connections to recreational opportunities for all our citizens, we are proactively supporting quality of life in our communities.
